Freedom of information is a
cornerstone of our democracy.
It shines a light on what governments do in our name. Without it, government secrecy and corruption flourish.-
The Albanese Government’s Freedom of Information Amendment Bill 2025 represents the greatest attack on transparency in Australian recent memory. -
Instead of strengthening the public's ability to access information- - - - - - - - - - - - - - the Bill seeks to restrict access, entrench secrecy, and was developed without public consultation.
Freedom of information is central to our right to know. -
We, the undersigned, call on the Government to:
- withdraw the seriously flawed Freedom of Information Amendment Bill 2025, and
- urgently establish an independent and comprehensive review of Australia’s freedom of information regime.
